Walker Valor

Walker, a service dog in training, was donated by Warrior Canine Connection and is sponsored by the Campbell Family Foundation. She is currently training with our Tampa program. Walker is named after Mary Walker who was a surgeon in the US Army during the Civil War and is the only female Medal of Honor recipient. Welcome, Walker!

Walker graduated in January 2024 and was placed as a facility dog with Tampa General Hospital Aeromed.

Elsie Valor

Elsie, a service dog in training, is sponsored by Darling Ingredients. She will be training with our Tampa program. Elsie is named in honor of Elsie S. Ott who was in the US Army Air Corp in WWII and pioneered air evacuations of wounded personnel. We know that smiling face is going to be an amazing service dog partner!

Elsie graduated and was placed with her forever Veteran in September 2023.

Molly Valor

Molly Valor, a service dog in training, was donated by Warrior Canine Connection and is sponsored by the Campbell Family Foundation. Molly was named after Molly Williams, who is believed to be the first woman firefighter. Molly was a slave in New York City and joined the Oceanus Engine Company #11 around 1815. We are excited for your journey, Molly!

Molly graduated and was placed with her forever Veteran in February 2023.

Hopper Valor

Hopper is a service dog in training who is currently training in Tampa, FL. He was named after Grace Brewster Murray Hopper who was a US Navy rear admiral and a pioneer in computer science, as one the first programmers of the Harvard Mark I computer. She had a PH.D. in mathematics from Yale and was a math professor at Vassar before joining the Navy Reserves. A guided missile destroyer (USS Hopper) and the Hopper supercomputer were named after her. In 2016 she was posthumously awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

Hopper left the program in November 2021 and was adopted by a veteran and his family.

RJ Valor

RJ, a service dog in training, was donated by Project 2 Heal and is sponsored by Scoop Soldiers. He will be training with our Georgia program. RJ is named in honor of Richard James (Ricky) Burnett, Private, USMC, who died in the Vietnam War due to hostile action and his father, John Harrison Burnett, who served in the US Navy. We are grateful for the service and sacrifice that the Burnett family has given our nation. VSD is excited to follow RJ on his journey to become a service dog!

RJ left the program in May 2022 and was adopted by a military family.

Miller Valor

Miller is a service dog in training and is currently training in Tampa, FL. Miller is named after Doris “Dorie” Miller, a cook in the Navy, who was the first African American to receive the Navy Cross for his bravery during the Pearl Harbor attack. He carried the wounded to safety and manned an anti-aircraft gun until he ran out of ammunition. Thank you to the Selle family, a patriotic and golden retriever loving family, for sponsoring Miller!

Miller graduated and was placed with his forever Veteran in November 2022.

Millie Valor

Millie, a service dog in training, was donated by Warrior Canine Connection and is training with our Georgia program. Millie was named by the cadets at the Sarasota Military Academy to honor the WWII Millie Mappers, women who played an integral role in producing accurate and up-to-date maps used by various branches of the military and government.

Millie graduated in November 2021 and was placed as a facility dog with Tampa General Hospital.

Goose Valor

Goose, a service dog in training, was donated by Warrior Canine Connection. Goose was sponsored by the parents of a young man who lost his life. Shortly after their sons passing, a flock of geese flew to their house, but one lone goose landed on the property and has stayed there for years. They now run a retreat for wounded veterans and first responders at their cabin called “The Lone Goose Lodge”.

Goose graduated and was placed with his forever first responder in June 2021.

Scarlett Valor

Scarlett was donated to Valor Service Dogs by Project 2 Heal. In December 2020 Scarlett accidentally ingested a very toxic Florida plant, the seeds of the sago palm. Despite every effort, she passed away. Valor Service Dogs is heartbroken over the loss of this sweet girl. In Scarlett’s memory, please take a minute to survey your yard and make sure any landscaping your pets may encounter is safe.

Hunter Valor

Hunter, a service dog in training, was donated to VSD from Warrior Canine Connection and is sponsored by Scoop Soldiers. Hunter is named in honor of a Vietnam Veteran, Billy King, that served on the USS Hunterdon. Billy came home from years of honorable service and battled his own battle with PTSD and died at the young age of 36. To his family and all veterans of that era, we remember you, we honor you and we thank you. We know Hunter is going to save and change lives and we are honored to be a part of his journey.

Hunter graduated in September 2021 and was placed with a first responder as a service dog.
